Nairobi City County to Dispose of 236 Unclaimed Bodies

The Nairobi City County has announced it will dispose of 236 unclaimed dead bodies that are lying in two morgues.

218 of the unclaimed bodies are lying at the Nairobi City Mortuary while 18 are at Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary, the county said in a notice on Thursday.

Members of the public have been urged to identify and collect the bodies, failure to which they will be disposed of after seven days of the notice.

“Pursuant to the Public Health Act Cap 242 [Subsidiary; PUBLIC HEALTH (PUBLIC MORTUARIES) RULES, 1991] (2). Interested members of the public are asked to identify and collect the below named bodies within 7 (seven) days, failure to which the Nairobi City County will seek authority for disposal,” the public notice reads.

Some of the bodies have been identified by names while others remain unknown.

The causes of death for the 236 unclaimed bodies range from road accidents, murder, drowning, shooting, natural death, sudden death, and mob injustice among others.

The bodies were received in the morgues in the period between March 2021 and March 2022, having been registered in various police stations within the city.

It's better to donate them to medical students for practical studies. Have we not read,I at least I have, that they lack enough cadavers for operating and studying human body. This would be a very welcome contribution to SCIENCE,especially in the study of medicine. What say you people?

What happens when we're done with cars? A body is just a shell. Cremation is the way to go.
I have always questioned why as Kenyans spent alot of money shipping bodies home after death leaving their loved ones struggling after burial.
If only we took the those funds and helped the their immediate families, life would be easier.
My 2 cents for the day.
