Ngirici Moves to Withdraw Petition Against Governor Anne Waiguru’s Election

Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has informed the court of her intention to withdraw her petition challenging the election of Governor Anne Waiguru.
During a pretrial hearing presided over by Justice Richard Mwongo on Wednesday, Ngirici’s attorney Brian Khaemba told the court that he received instructions from his client to withdraw the petition.
Judge Mwongo gave the petitioner seven days to file a formal application withdrawing the petition. The matter will be mentioned on October 24th.
Waiguru’s legal team led by Kamotho Waiganjo applauded Ngirici’s decision to withdraw the petition, saying it will give the county administration more time to fulfill its commitments.
In a subsequent statement, Ngirici said she decided to withdraw the case not because she did not have enough evidence to proof that the election was manipulated in Waiguru’s favor, but to allow the people of Kirinyaga to enjoy uninterrupted services.
“I have decided to take a bold step, one that does not serve to advantage me or disorganize and disenfranchise the Governor but one that serves the full advantage to the people of Kirinyaga,” Ngirici stated.
“I wish to grant the Governor the full benefit, space and enough legroom to, without any excuse nor interruptions, discharge her duties to our people as the county head and as the Chair of the Council of Governors.”
“I will share every good idea with her and condemn every retrogressive step taken by her regime. I thereby, very proudly, announce that I’m withdrawing the court petition with immediate effect,” Ngirici added.
Waiguru was declared the winner of the August 9th gubernatorial contest after garnering 113,088 votes against Ngirici’s 105,667 votes.
