Former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut Collapses and Dies

Former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut has passed away.

Chepkut is said to have collapsed at his home in Nairobi on Saturday morning and was taken to Mediheal Hospital in Parklands, where he was pronounced dead, according to family members.

Reports indicate that the politician died from a blood clot and high blood pressure.

Last year, the deceased was admitted to hospital for two months after an accident at a city hotel, where he reportedly missed a step and fell down a flight of stairs, rolling over several times.

After that incident, Chepkut is said to have suffered two more accidents that saw him get admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition. He later underwent a 36-hour surgery on his legs and the injured arm, Nation reports.

Chepkut, who was known for his theatrics, won the Ainabkoi parliamentary seat in 2017 under an independent ticket. He tried to defend his seat as an independent candidate but lost to Samuel Chepkonga of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Prior to his election in 2017, Chepkut served as the personal assistant to the late former powerful Moi era Cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott.

I heard someone in a matatu whisper that she does not feel any emotions when an MP dies. Have we reached that level of mistrust and hatred towards our corrupt legislators?
