Ida Odinga's Bodyguard Shot Dead in Kisumu

A bodyguard attached to Azimio La Umoja party leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga was on Friday morning shot dead by an unknown assailant in Kisumu, according to police.

Barack Onyango Odour was reportedly heading home after a night out at a local entertainment joint in the company of two friends, a man and a woman, when they were attacked at Uzima area at around 4 a.m.

Nyanza Regional Police Commander Karanja Muiruri confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway to establish the circumstances under which Ida’s bodyguard was killed.

Reports indicate Oduor died after he was shot twice in the head and in the leg while his companions sustained gunshot wounds and are currently being treated at a health facility in the lakeside city.

The body of the officer has been moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.

Sources said Oduor was off duty and Mama Ida was not in Kisumu at the time of the incident.
