Murkomen Unveils Comprehensive Reforms for Airports in Kenya

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced the findings of a Multi-Sectoral Technical Committee's investigation into the management of international airports in the country.

In a statement released on Thursday, Murkomen shed light on the committee's comprehensive recommendations aimed at bolstering airport management with a primary focus on addressing challenges encountered at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Among the key proposals is the augmentation of staff at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), a move deemed crucial for resolving existing issues.

The committee also advocated for the implementation of performance contracts for KAA staff to elevate efficiency and professionalism. The statement underscored the importance for KAA to align with international standards and best practices. It further emphasized the importance of a maintenance culture.

"KAA has been struggling with a disorganised and demoralised workforce with no clearly defined roles and succession plan. We must insist on KAA embracing a maintenance culture and compliance with international standards and best practices." read the statement.

As part of the proposed reforms, the committee suggested initiatives such as the rehabilitation of access roads, the construction of additional parking spaces, and addressing defects and structural issues in airport runways through rehabilitation efforts. Murkomen highlighted the committee's recommendations for enhancing fire safety measures and fortifying security systems. This involves the implementation of barriers and screening measures to ensure the utmost safety and security for travelers.

A notable aspect of the reform agenda is the ongoing refurbishment of electro-mechanical systems at JKIA, inclusive of the installation of new backup generators. Looking ahead, Murkomen outlined plans for the replacement of deteriorating roofs at the airport terminals, with the modifications slated to commencement in 2024.

The comprehensive reforms unveiled by CS Murkomen signal a commitment to revitalizing air travel infrastructure in Kenya, ensuring that international airports align with global standards and provide a seamless and secure experience for passengers.

It appears that the Ruto administration is hell-bent on deconstructing Uhuru's legacies but not with the goals of innovating them, but the goals of creating budgeted corruption. Why is it that the most expensive amenities are the only ones being affected such as this airport or the energy sector?

Does Murkomen know what global airport standards are? He can anvil whatever he wants but is he going to implement the plan?

They just collapsing JKIA so that they can blackmail “international community “ based on Nairobi .
Specifically those who want their “interests”protected.

They don’t care about standards.
