Four students from Shiner's Boys High School will continue their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations under police supervision at Gilgil Police Station following their involvement in the fatal stabbing of their classmate Vincent Ngugi.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang made this announcement while supervising examination materials distribution in Nakuru East on Monday. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, stemmed from a dispute over personal belongings. The four students, who had recently returned from a disciplinary suspension, allegedly confronted Ngugi after discovering some of their possessions had been damaged. The confrontation escalated into violence within the dormitory, resulting in Ngugi sustaining a fatal stab wound to his lower abdomen.
Despite immediate intervention attempts, he succumbed to his injuries, and his body now awaits postmortem examination at the Nakuru Morgue. Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui Mwenda confirms that authorities have apprehended all four students involved, including the primary suspect who initially fled the institution. Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winstone Mwakio notes that investigations are ongoing to determine how the students obtained the weapon, adding that the institution has faced previous disciplinary challenges.
The tragedy has particularly devastated Ngugi's family, who had been anticipating his successful completion of secondary education. His mother, overcome with grief, expresses the profound loss of seeing four years of educational investment end in such devastating circumstances. The incident adds to a somber period during the KCSE examinations which has seen several candidates pass away from various causes since the theory examinations commenced a week ago. Principal Secretary Kipsang assures that the judicial process would proceed alongside the examinations, with the suspects likely facing court proceedings imminently.
