Kenyan Student from Nakuru Ranked Best Globally in Cambridge Exams

A 17-year-old Kenyan student has achieved a major feat, being rated the best globally after topping the 2016 Cambridge International examinations which are tested across 160 countries.

Manraj Singh, a student at Melvin Jones Lions Academy in Nakuru County, became the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award winner after his exemplary performance in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams, done by 10,000 international schools.

IGCSE is an equivalent of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, a test that leads to ‘A’ levels, a pre-university requirement leading to first or second-year university education.

“I am elated. Although I expected to do well, I never thought I could conquer the world in this,” a delighted Manraj told The Standard at the school yesterday.

Besides being named the best globally, Manraj topped the list in Mathematics after scoring 100 per cent, an achievement which also earned him awards.

“Manraj Singh of Melvin Jones Lions gained the highest mark in the world for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics in the June 2016 Cambridge examination,” read part of a certificate of recognition signed by Cambridge International Chief Executive Michael O’Sullivan.

“I always wanted to excel. For an entire month, I kept on studying until in the late night. It is also God who helped me through because I could not make it on my own,” said Manraj said adding that the recognition posed a big challenge ahead.” Manraj said

He added,“...I have to work extra hard to better the results.” Manraj is hopeful that his win will earn him a scholarship to top universities abroad.

Hongera sana Ndugu Manraj Singh. Singh is a name from India .
In your language it means a " lion." You have been the academic lion and your success will be rewarded handsomely. The sky is the limit. Thank you for elevating the name of Kenya globally.

You are so behind news..we have taken naming our kids to another level....names such as Liam, Shanikwa, Shawanda, Bridgett, LaShawn etc. It's just too hilarious how parents are trying to outdo each other in naming their kids.

@NANI

Watu ambao wametekwa nyara akili yao hufanya mambo uliyotaja. Mzazi ambaye ni huru, hawezi kumbandika mwanawe majina ya ajabu ya kiutumwa kama uliyotaja hapo mapema.

Why should you call your child ng'ombe aka Wang'ombe? You should give your children name that have good meaning. 'Njogu' and wonder why your child is too fat and eat a lot like Njogu. Ng'ondu aka wang'ondu and wonder why your child is too foolish.
