Babu Owino Arrested over Remarks on President Uhuru

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has been arrested by police following his Sunday remarks insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The newly elected MP has been taken to Director of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.

In a National Super Alliance in Nairobi on Sunday, the MP directed demeaning words at President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"If Muammar Gaddafi (Libya) was removed by citizens if Laurent Gbagbo (Ivory Coast) were removed by citizens if
Yahya Jammeh (Gambia) was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (you are the son of a dog)," Babu said.

The MP's sentiments sparked protests from residents of President Uhuru's Kiambu County home. The residents demanded for the arrest of the MP, blocking Thika Superhighway at Githurai area for the better part of Monday.

In a Facebook post, the MP denied insulting anyone, saying he owes no one an apology.

“I will not apologize to anyone because I called nobody’s name during my yesterday’s address. We have so many presidents in Kenya, from the President of Sonu to all presidents of students union in Kenya, President of the Supreme Court, President of Youth senate and many more,"

“However I will stick to objective politics and will never abuse anybody. Let my brothers and sisters from the kikuyu nation know that I did not abuse their president. One kenya one nation… God bless Kenya,” he wrote.

I hope he rots In Jail. Uhuru you will need to place under House arrest. You have the sovereign power to do so. He is inciting and invoking Violence. Its time you used presidential powers. Do not let Kenya burn down because of one person. Exercise your powers. The court found no evidence with anything and him calling of demonstrations Shows his last kicks of death in politics. Raila Just retire if you can't face Uhuru in re- elections.

As patriotic Kenyans we should not allow people like Babu Awino to get away with such insults to the head of state. To attack an elected head of state like that is to attack all of us. Let him spend time in jail. There are many other worthy Kenyans who can replace him in Parliament.

Lock him up! He should never see parliament again. He is advocating taking over government through violence.

The freedoms Kenya enjoys today are not the results of Raila. Let’s not forget the heros who lost lives. Many members of Mwakenya group were killed at Nyayo house and elsewhere. Then, you have people like Koigi, Kihika, etc. So, this nonsense about Raila and second liberation is total hogwash. He is alive; others are not!

Whats the point of arresting him today ... then releasing him kesho ??? Just a waste of time ... we'v seen this movie staring muthama, kuria, junet, waititu etc ... upuzi mtupu

@Guest 1: You are right. Uhuru has used many inappropriate language so many times that, if justice were to be followed without double standards, he would be the first to be arrested! I remember when he challenged Ndugu Joho to stop following him as if he (joho) was his wife! This is an insult an ordinary man cannot tolerate. Yet Uhuru got away with it. He now behaves exactly like his father (Jomo Kenyatta) whose language I can not express it in this public forum.

For the members of the police force wasting time listening to what Uhuru is being called, please do your job, like providing security to all Kenyans 24/7 and stop stopping motorists and demanding a bribe!

Uhuru and Kuria have something in common: threats and insults.

@Imara, when you create a standard live by it Mr Civil Society. You are here likening Joho and Uhuru fighting to this lad calling Uhuru a dog. C'mmon do you know how sick that is according to the African customs. You would not know because you are a foreigner, half baked Kenyan. Learn our culture first.

Imara, of course insults are never acceptable. Lakini we all know there is an unspoken code that one does not insult his/her elders. Alafu kuita mtu mtoto wa umbwa..that is taking it to a whole different level, kwani ametusi Uhuru, baba yake and ukoo wake. This ka guy is relatively young by the looks of him. So he should know his place ki mila. By the way, can't work out kama ni jathe or zairwa, hiyo complexion yake has a drop of vanilla or from a bleach bottle, just saying! Kaoze huko prison mpaka apate adabu!

A wise man should advice this lad to go slowly. He is biting more than he can chew. If it was during Jomo or Moi regime he would be now in city mortuary. 'Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don't forget my words or turn away from them'.

These are euphoric consequences of SC verdict. Everyone feels untouchables and above all laws and morals. You only need the open sesame words of nasa. Claim you are doing it for RAO and you are an instant celebracy-what a disgrace to decency and civilization! Someone has to draw the line somewhere to bring sanity in our society.

Our president must be respected at all times and he was elected by the majority of the wananchi but The results were annulled by the supreme which he respected and there will be a repeat on October 26th . We must not forget Libya formerly the rich stable country in Africa is now ungovernable and being run by terrorists. We also have made a lot of progress for example we have the best constitution in the world , and allow two terms for any president.
