US Speaks on Raila's Planned Swearing-in

The United States has once again urged Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga to shelve his planned inauguration as people's president.

In a statement by the Acting Secretary of State for African Affairs Donald Yamamoto, the US said the move by the National Super Alliance (NASA) to establish a parallel government are "unhelpful."

“Forming a separate or parallel government is really unhelpful,” said Donald Yamamoto, the acting assistant secretary of state for African affairs.

Speaking during a teleconference with reporters, the diplomat further said that US recognizes Odinga's commitment to reforms in Kenya over the past years.

“We've known the former prime minister over the years,” the top US diplomat for Africa said. “He has a great story — the need for political reform. “He stands as a model for reform,” Mr Yamamoto added.

“He is famous for, noted for, respected for reform.”

Mr Yamamoto also said Kenya is “one of our most important countries in Africa" and that "Kenya must thus demonstrate high standards of democracy."

I really don't understand what you Mr. Yamamoto means when he urges Kenya to maintain high standards of democracy yet the man he is defending wasn't democratically elected to that post. Furthermore, I wonder where the USA has gotten the courage to try and teach us about democracy yet their own president, Trump is alleged to have rigged Clinton out in last year's elections. Someone please advise Yamamoto to try and remove the log from his eye before helping us remove the speck in our eyes.

We have kenyans who are sick. They want other kenyans to go by jungle declaration. It is wrong for America to call Raila a democrat,it is foolhandy.People have been mistaking Raila's hunger for power to that of being a democrat He is not.Consider the many deaths that have been occasioned by power greed. In 1982 many kenyans lost lives and property.in 2007 The same thing happened. In 2017 kenyans have refused to go that route

Let us keep off from Kenyan politics if they can not save the political crisis we have in Kenya right now. You are celebrating when Kenyan government is abusing the rights of it's own people by killing like chicken, we won't accept and you keep on telling us that how you love Kenya, Kenya is nothing other than people whose right are being abused this was witnessed 2007, 2013 again 2017 no!!!Business will not be as usual, if you are compromised eat slowly but give H.E Raila Odinga his peace. Wait for his inauguration very soon, you like or you don't like and never confused us again

We Kenyans respect US BT when it comes to matters of true democracy and integrity, US has failed and immensely failed Kenya by defending and covering stolen election. Rails is and should be the ppls President. period

Reagan (not verified)     Wed, 12/20/2017 @ 11:19pm

Rails has fought tirelessly for this country and for minority. No right minded person can ever doubt that he (Raila) won fairly and with a convincing margin. He should be the President of the republic of Kenya

Mark (not verified)     Wed, 12/20/2017 @ 11:24pm

we Kenyans should be focused on 2022 cause we cannot make change at this time Raila cannot be a President due to in President Uhuru as taken the power but for Raila fail himself by being greedy for power since 1982,up to now he still needs to be a leader he dictate his father at take the leadership of FORT Kenya and his father curse him that you will struggle for leadership but you cannot be a leader.

Kenneth (not verified)     Thu, 12/21/2017 @ 02:26am

David omollo (not verified)     Thu, 12/21/2017 @ 08:44am

Raila us outwardly a self-interested persona implicating democracy to achieve his self-implicated rule to his thugs and a few elites. He knows nothing about ruling, all he knows is wage war and set brother against brother using propaganda. if he is truly the agent of change, why does he advocate for riots, distortion of the economy, and killings of people's son's while his goons rape people's mothers, wives, and daughters??? he should just retire and let the real man of the people take his place!!! period!

slim (not verified)     Thu, 12/21/2017 @ 12:29pm
