Kenyan Family Seeks Help to Ferry Body of Kin Found Dead in the US

A Kenyan family whose kin was discovered dead in her hostel room in the United States on January 4th is seeking help from well wishers to enable them ferry her body back to the country for burial.

Patricia Miswa died in her hostel room under unclear circumstances, months after leaving Kenya to pursue a Masters degree in Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota in August, 2017.

Calls to her went unanswered, prompting her mother to contact the management of the hostel where she was staying. Police later discovered Patricia’s lifeless body lying inside her room.

Patricia's younger sister, Anita Miswa said the deceased had no prior cases of illnesses and that she sounded healthy the last time they spoke on 31st December. “

The news of my sister’s death came as a shock to the whole family, because she had not been sick before and was always a very vibrant person who was full of life,” said Anita.

“All we want now is to bring her back home where she belongs. But we as a family alone cannot raise the amount needed for the transportation and burial. We need a total of Sh1.5 million. Already we have received Sh600,000 from friends and well-wishers,” she said.

A fundraiser towards the course is slated for Sunday, January 14th in Baraka estate, Ngata area Nakuru county.

Contributions can be channeled to Patrica’s mother mobile number 0725 764389 (M-pesa).

Patricia is the founder of the AfroElle magazine, which focuses on women of African heritage, entrepreneurs, leaders and influencers.

Not just young ladies, some young men have unexpectedly lost their lives too. We need to foster great networking among our selves in this country coz the family do not appear to have a representative helping them navigate the system in US. For the mother to call the landlord from Kenya is a nightmare! An autopsy is also recommended to determine what killed her. Wish i can be of any help to this family.

Any reps from Minnesota who knows this case please? Let's help this family emotionally, logistically and financially.
