Raila Opens Up on Why He Kept Kalonzo, Wetang'ula, Mudavadi Out of Talks with President Uhuru

National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga has finally opened up on why his meeting with President Kenyatta was secretly done and why he kept his fellow co-principals in the dark.

Speaking during an interview with Daily Nation, Odinga said that the meeting was kept a top secret because there were fears that the other political camps could scuttle the plan.

It has emerged that even Deputy President William Ruto learnt about the meeting a few minutes before Odinga and President Kenyatta stepped out of Harambee House to announce they had agreed to function together.

“Every discussion must have a beginning. If I called you and said we should meet, you don’t always have to say that you must first consult someone else," he stated.

Questioned whether he was the loser in the unity deal with the Head of State, Odinga laughed it off, stating that he can't be termed as so, since all the key Nasa demands are covered in the MoU.

The demands include; matters touching on electoral justice, judicial independence, restructuring the Executive, police reforms, strengthening devolution, tackling corruption, tribalism and exclusivity.

The Opposition chief, however, admitted that the meeting was just 'talks about talks' rather than deep negotiations. Odinga said that all stakeholders including political, religious and civil society will be involved in the dialogue when the right time comes.

He insisted that the talks with President Kenyatta had nothing to do with power sharing. “We have said no to nusu mkate. We want real change," he asserted.

I think since it is known what happened in meeting other leaders should support but raising temperature again and yet this talk is for benefit of a whole nation not an individual, we are calling and leaders to support dialog.
