Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Calls for Re-introduction of Prime Minister Post

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has called for the reinstatement of the Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministers positions.

Mutua  further said that the Constitution should be amended to pave way for presidential candidates to run for other seats. This, he said, will provide them with something to fall back to in case they fail to win the country's top seat.

“Kenyan politics is do-or-die, because when a leader fails to clinch a seat they become irrelevant. Let us expand our constitution, let us create more positions like Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and many others to accommodate various leaders so that it does not become do or die, ” said Mutua, who spoke in Kakamega while accompanied by his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya.

He said Kenya should borrow practices from countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, where “if you go for presidency and miss, you’re still in the government.”

“We therefore want that one can run for presidency and Senator at the same time, so that if you miss one you continue with the other,” he said.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader spoke during the first day of his bench-marking tour of Kakamega County. Mutua and Governor Oparanya pledged to partner in developing their respective counties.

@kenya.I agree with you there. When someone fails to be aleader,it ia because somebody else was chosen.Whether tbey are qualified or not is another matter...Politicians are not special.you loose you look for something else or retire

@Maxiley & Kenya - We have very good brains out there that get rejected by gullible Kenyans during elections. The voting public is generally dumb and don't get it. They reject intelligent and able men & women because they are a tard too serious with whatever they are intending to do for the common mwananchi. In Kirinyaga County, for instance, they chose Waiguru the incompetent and thieving former civil servant. In Kiambu County, they elected an outright thug Waititu and rejected the more able Kabogo. These days I have no much regard for the average Kenyan - he / she is too thick for life and will continue wallowing in crisis after crisis till the end of time. They just don't get it!

@Mlachake, I have always maintained that, things will start to change and politicians held accountable when majority of wananchi are enlightened, and start voting on principle rather that empty promises...
Some how it should be harmmered into their brains that when politicians,or leaders make mistakes, wananchi are the ones that bear the brunt of the ill effects.

"So that if you miss one you continue with the other" sounds like gambling to me, apparently it's all about your stomachs!, and not what's good for the people. Now, it appears to me like we're ploughing the entire field, surgically plant these "indispensable"leaders so that they're all in a position to steal regardless of the damage to our constitution. A sad day for Kenya!

I am a big supporter of Mutua but not on this issue. Why should you have two "prospective jobs" so that if you fail to hold on to one you have the other?

We have a lot of smart young Kenyans who can run for these positions in the Government. Choose one and chose wisely

Dr. Mutua you did not tell us why tax payers need to pay for yet another expensive bureaucracy and how it will benefit ordinary Kenyans. You sound self serving when you ask for candidates to have the ability to run for multiple offices at one time because again did not state how that will benefit ordinary Kenyans and if it is worth the additional cost. You are now coming across just like any other out of touch tumbocrat, out to waste tax payers money without adding value.
