Kiambu Governor Waititu’s Wife Susan Wangari Resurfaces, Presents Self to EACC

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u has presented herself before Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Ms. Wangari turned up at EACC headquarters in Nairobi on Sunday afternoon, a few hours after her husband also surrendered to the anti-graft agency.

The two reappeared a day after EACC detectives said they could not trace them in any of their known residences in Kiambu and Nairobi County.

The two went missing after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered their arrest on Friday evening in connection with an irregular tender worth Sh588 million by Kiambu County government.

Haji also directed the arrest of 11 others suspects alleged to have been involved in the awarding of an irregular contract for upgrading several roads in Kiambu County.
Speaking to reporters at Integrity Centre on Sunday morning, Waititu’s lawyer Oliver Kipchumba rubbished claims that the Governor had gone into hiding after an arrest order was issued against him.

“The issue of running away is neither here nor there. The governor was away out of town and he came back yesterday a bit late and that’s why he reported to the EACC this morning,” said Kipchumba.

Waititu and his co-accused will be arraigned in court on Monday to face various charges including conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement, engaging in the fraudulent practice, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and money laundering.

Waititu wife is a fugitive. She should not be given a bail because she has shown she can run away. That was a rehearsal of how she will disappear.
