Former Likoni MP Khalif Mwavumo Passes Away

Former Likoni MP Khalif Mwavumo Salim has passed away.

Mwavumo, who served as the MP for Likoni between 1992 and 1997, died at his home in Kizingo, Mombasa on Monday morning.

His demise was confirmed by Mombasa politician and businessman Suleiman Shabal, who mourned him as a father figure and a man full of wisdom.

Mwavumo’s political career started in the early 1960s when he served as a councillor in the defunct Municipal Council of Mombasa.

He captured the Likoni parliamentary seat on a Ford-Kenya party ticket, defeating Abdulkadir Abdalla Mwidau of KANU.

In 2015, his wife went missing following a deadly stampede that claimed the lives of more than 2,000 pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The pilgrims were either suffocated or crushed during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, making it the deadliest Hajj disaster ever witnessed in history.

An official from Al Buraq Hajj and Umrah travel agency that facilitated her travel to Saudi Arabia told the family that she was spotted inside one of the ambulances being rushed to hospital.

So sad to here about the death of his wife. May he too rest in peace. I met him when he came to our house years ago.
