Amazon to Train 10,000 Kenyan University Students on Cloud Computing

American tech giant Amazon has partnered with the Kenyan government to train more than 10,000 university students on cloud computing.

The initiative between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the ICT Authority will equip learners from 10 Kenyan universities with cloud computing skills to prepare them for careers in cloud administration, database management, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

Others will work as cloud support engineers, cloud security analysts, cloud network engineers, cloud software engineers, cloud data scientists and cloud architects.

ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui said the training will ensure Kenyans get opportunities in the global space as well as exploit chances available online and earn a sustainable income.

ICT Authority CEO Stanley Kamanguya underscored the need to build a digitally enabled workforce if Kenya is to achieve and realize the dream of a digital economy.

He noted that the skills will be placed on individuals in the public sector workforce and also on citizens who need to be trained on how to consume the services that are put online and utilize the infrastructure for economic gain.

AWS Regional Lead for West, East and Central Africa Robin Njiru said learners who complete the two-year program will be linked to job opportunities across the world.
