Kenyan Truck Driver Jailed Six Years After Fatal Crash and Laughing Dashcam Reaction

A Kenyan truck driver has been sentenced to six years in prison in New Jersey for a road rage incident that caused the death of another motorist.

Joseph Nyandwaro, 41, admitted causing the death of 40-year-old Osman Aden by deliberately ramming Aden’s vehicle into a concrete barrier on the New Jersey Turnpike in June 2025. Prosecutors said the collision was intentional and occurred during a confrontation between the two drivers.

Dashcam footage from Nyandwaro’s truck recorded the crash and his reaction immediately afterwards. Investigators later confirmed that paint from Aden’s vehicle was found on Nyandwaro’s truck and that damage to the vehicle had been concealed following the incident.

Nyandwaro pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide, a charge used when reckless or dangerously negligent driving results in death. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including leaving the scene of a fatal crash and tampering with evidence.

Under the sentence imposed by the court, Nyandwaro must serve most of the six-year term before becoming eligible for parole. Any release would be subject to strict supervision conditions.

The dashcam footage formed a central part of the prosecution’s case and was presented as evidence of Nyandwaro’s conduct before and after the crash. The court concluded that his actions met the legal threshold for intentional and reckless behaviour.

The victim’s family expressed concern that the sentence did not reflect the seriousness of the offence.
