Kenya Warns Citizens Abroad to Stay Alert After US‑Israel Strike on Iran

Kenya has advised its citizens in the Middle East to take extra precautions following a sharp rise in regional hostilities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on 28 February.

In a statement, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr Abraham Korir Sing’oe said the government is in close contact with Kenyan diplomatic missions across the affected countries and is closely monitoring developments. He urged nationals to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

The ministry also reiterated Kenya’s support for international efforts to ease tensions through dialogue under the framework of the United Nations Charter.

The advisory follows coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian military and strategic sites.

Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain. The exchanges have disrupted daily life, with several governments closing airspace, airlines suspending flights and emergency warnings issued in major cities.

Reports of missile interceptions and explosions have increased concerns about further escalation. The latest violence stems from longstanding disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme and wider regional security issues.

Diplomatic efforts in recent months have not produced a lasting agreement, leaving tensions unresolved. International leaders and organisations have renewed calls for restraint, warning that continued military action could deepen instability across the region.

The situation is of particular concern to Kenya because of its large diaspora working in Gulf countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would continue to provide updates and guidance as events unfold.
