Justin Muturi Calls for Immediate Evacuation of Kenyans from Middle East

Justin Muturi has urged the government of Kenya to begin the immediate evacuation of its citizens from the Middle East, citing rising instability and safety concerns.

In remarks issued on 1 March, the former Attorney General said the authorities must act without delay to protect Kenyans living and working in the region. He criticised what he described as official inaction, noting that several other governments have already briefed their nationals and activated evacuation procedures.

According to Muturi, failing to respond promptly amounts to neglecting a constitutional responsibility to safeguard citizens abroad. He called for a comprehensive public update on the status of Kenyans in affected countries and the activation of emergency contact lines through embassies and consulates.

He also urged the government to implement a structured evacuation plan. Muturi said families in Kenya were increasingly anxious as they awaited information from relatives in areas affected by unrest. He emphasised the need for immediate and decisive measures.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has advised Kenyans in the region to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel and register with diplomatic missions. It has also encouraged regular communication with embassies and consulates to receive updates. These advisories reflect standard precautionary guidance during periods of instability.

The Middle East hosts a large Kenyan diaspora, particularly in Gulf countries, where many citizens are employed in domestic work, healthcare, construction and other sectors. Disruptions to air travel and growing insecurity have increased concern among families in Kenya, who are seeking clarity on contingency arrangements.
