Kenyans in Australia to Hold Sydney March Demanding Justice for Sheila Chebii
Kenyans living in Australia will hold a peaceful march in Sydney on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, to demand accountability and transparency following the death of Sheila Chebii at Meriton Suites on Sussex Street earlier this year.
Organisers expect hundreds of people to attend the demonstration, which will take place under the slogan “Justice for Sheila Chebii, Fight for Our Sister”. The march is intended to press for answers over the circumstances surrounding Chebii’s death and to show support for her family.
Participants will gather at Market X Sussex at 1:30 pm before marching along Sussex Street from 2:00 pm. The event will end with a vigil outside Meriton Suites, scheduled to continue until about 3:00 pm.
Attendees have been asked to wear white clothing, traditional Kenyan attire, or carry Kenyan flags as a sign of solidarity and unity. Community organisers said the demonstration would remain peaceful and coordinated, with police expected to manage traffic and road access during the march.
Organisers said the event is also intended to highlight concerns about the safety and welfare of Kenyans living abroad. In a public statement, they called for justice for Sheila Chebii, accountability, and greater protection for members of the Kenyan diaspora.
Chebii’s death has prompted calls from Kenyans in Australia and other countries for a transparent investigation and improved support for diaspora communities. Community leaders said the march represents a collective appeal for justice and safety for Kenyans living overseas.
The demonstration will take place under the message: “One Voice. One Community. One Purpose. Justice for Sheila. Justice for All.”
