An Atlanta-based Kenyan woman whose photo was circulated widely on social media has died at Emory hospital, the family announced Friday.
The hospital had sought her kin after her condition deteriorated. The deceased lived in Alpharetta, Georgia.
According to a family member, Susan Gacheri Eldad had been admitted in the delivery ward at the hospital and died soon after giving birth to twins.
“It’s very sad but at the same time we thank God that the babies survived,” she told ksnmedia.com.
Before the sad news broke on Friday, Lucy Kinyua, a friend of Susan’s and a former school mate at Muthambi Girls’ wrote the following message on Facebook:

On Saturday, Gacheri’s family released the following message:
“Hello friends and family,
As a team, we have all been praying and trusting God for devine healing for our dear Susan.
On Friday morning, things took a turn for the worse and we were summoned by the Doctors.
The condition worsened and at 2.31 pm Atlanta time Gaceri went to be with the Lord.
Let us keep praying for her children, and family during this trying time.”
Upon learning of the sad news, another close friend of Susan, Lucy Philip, wrote the following on Facebook on Saturday: “What a bad way to end the year…?Why did it have to be you…
I’m really saddened by the news I got this morning… You were more than a friend to me… We did a lot together just like sisters would do and you trusted me a lot… My heart felt condolences to your family and more so your lovely son Jeff.RIP dear….#Susan Eldad … Till we meet again.”
