Meru Council of Elders Threatens to Ex-Communicate Former Governor Munya for Joining NASA
The Meru Council of Elders, Njuri Ncheke has threatened to ex-communicate former Meru Governor Peter Munya over his decision to join forces with opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of October 17th presidential repeat election.
Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders expressed their anger over Munya's move and has threatened to declare him a social outcast should he not change his stand.
The Council said that the Party of National Unity (PNU) leader went against the community's resolve to back President Uhuru Kenyatta as he seeks another five-year term in power by declaring support to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga
On Thursday, residents held anti-Munya protests at Laare shopping centre led by Njuri Ncheke council chairman Linus Kathera.
The Elders termed Munya's decision to throw his weight behind Raila Odinga as a personal decision that had no blessings of the Ameru people.
“Munya has dug his own political grave and it will be very hard for him to redeem himself unless he denounces his move to support NASA,” Kathera said.
Munya officially joined the opposition outfit on Monday, after holding a meeting with the principals.
Munya said that his resolve to join NASA was out of shared fate, where he was rigged in favour of his rival Kiraitu Murungi.
"I want to confirm that I have officially joined the NASA family. I want to be on the right side of history. We want to put behind us the history of stealing elections," Munya said.
