It is of utmost importance to acknowledge the presence of countless unsung heroes who proudly represent Kenya across the world. These unsung heroes are the ordinary Kenyans who reside and toil in foreign lands, often without receiving the recognition they deserve. Yet, their undeniable influence extends both abroad and within their homeland.

Important to Kenya's economy and societal development are its citizens who live outside the country. Kenyans who work overseas remit billions of shillings each year. Sources such as the Central Bank of Kenya assess that there are over three million Kenyan citizens residing permanently or temporarily in other regions and countries. Although these men and women account for less than one-tenth of Kenya's 50 million population, they contributed $4.027 billion in 2022.

However, the remittances from Kenyans abroad surpassed these figures, claiming the top spot as the main source of foreign exchange. It's crucial to mention how these inflows have been consistently rising since 2016. The continuous growth in diaspora remittances brings prosperity to both the economy and society.

Kenyans living abroad deserve recognition as genuine champions. Despite enduring prolonged separation from their loved ones, their bond remains resilient and unwavering. This truth became undeniable amidst the pandemic, as remittances defied all odds and continued to flourish. It is of utmost importance that Kenya lend a helping hand to Kenyans in the diaspora to maintain their social and economic impact back home.
