NASA Diaspora Group Split over Support for President Kenyatta

A section of officials of the National Super Alliance (Nasa) supporters group in the United Kingdom have denounced a statement issued by the group's secretary-general declaring support for President Kenyatta following his unity pact with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Led by its Chairperson Kivindyo Ndivo, the group distanced itself from the statement issued by Ali Abdi, terming it reckless and self-seeking. Ndivo said that the group will be taking action on 'rogue' members purporting to act on its behalf against the organizational guidelines.

“In any organisation there are people who will try to rock the boat for whatever reason.  I am consulting with the rest of my committee members on what action to take against the member.” Mr Ndivo said.

Nasa-UK secretary general Ali Abdi said the group had unanimously agreed to support President Uhuru's government after his handshake with Odinga.

“As Raila diaspora supporters we are keen to support him as the country needs to be united. We stand with Raila and heed to his leadership direction,” Abdi told Standard Digital.

“How else can the country be united unless the right leaders participate? The outcome of the right, bold and now famous Uhuru-Raila handshake will be felt soon. The dissenting voices are from suspect quarters,” said Ali.

The group has however cautioned Raila against entering into any deal with the government that would sabotage the coalition's push for electoral reforms, respect for rule of law and justice for the victims of police brutality.

The group's Vice Chairman George Osore said: “Our position is we wait and see if the handshake will address the issues that Kenyans hold dear and if not we will not hesitate to call upon our members to stand up against impunity, corruption and injustice.”
