Azimio La Umoja presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga has started assembling his diaspora campaign team ahead of the August 9th elections.
Odinga, through a letter dated March 30th, appointed three strategists to spearhead his campaign in the United Kingdom and Europe.
The three, Ali Ali, Maina Gatangi, and Rose Seko will be tasked with coordinating Odinga’s agenda for the diaspora community. Gatangi and Seko currently serve as the Chairman and Secretary-General of Azimio la Umoja Diaspora UK respectively.
Odinga said the coordinators shall work in liaison with various sectors of diaspora society, as well as coordinate and consolidate various Azimio La Umoja coalition partners to implement a tangible and achievable campaign strategy.
They are also expected to work hand in hand with the national presidential campaign secretariat in Kenya and fundraise for their activities.
"Our recent mobilization of diaspora masses was a great success and a show of seriousness and commitment in supporting Azimio," Ali said as quoted by The Standard.
Gatangi said the team will also focus on mobilization in Kenya through initiatives funded by Kenyans in the diaspora. "With low voter registration in the diaspora, we shall focus more on campaign mobilization back home," said Gatangi.
During Odinga’s recent tour of the UK, the diaspora secretariat organized a meeting at Kensington, where more than 600 Azimio supporters turned up.
The event culminated in the signing of the ‘Azimio Declaration’, with attendees vowing to support Odinga's quest for the presidency.
