Boniface Mwangi Denounces US Embassy Fee Increament, Dubs it 'Daylight Robbery'

Political activist Boniface Mwangi has responded to the US Embassy's announcement of an increase in Visa Fees urging legislatures to pass a law that will see the embassies refund 80% of the visa fees if an applicant receives no visa.

On Wednesday, the United States reviewed its visa fees for non-immigrants affirming an increase effective May 30, 2023.

The embassy has attributed the increase to a rising cost of inputs on the side of consular section services.

The vocal activist has bashed the rationale adopted in the Embassy's decision, stating that such a move enables the US government to collect millions from Kenyans.

"This is how the US government collects billions from Kenyans every year. Parliament should pass a law that embassies must refund 80% of the visa fees to an applicant if they don’t get issued a visa. We should stop this daylight robbery!" he tweeted.

Mr Mwangi further dubbed the move as 'Daylight Robbery' in a tweet that has since gathered 264K views.

International consular services costs operate on the basis of reciprocity. Kenya, like the rest of world will undoubtedly increase consular fees for US citizens seeking Kenya visas.

Supply and demand bwana Mwangi. Afghanistan could charge nothing and I still wouldn't go there. The US is aware of the demand for travel here and know they can get away with it. They take advantage of that fact

The goal is to keep you folks out there with your Changaa! Fees are raised when no body wants you to visit their country due to so many Kenyans acting stupid in America. You are taking your corrupt nature and backward mentality to the US and Americans are getting tired of your nonsense! Do you not get the message Mwangi??

@Mwangi - You would rather worry about the bread and butter issues which are directly affecting the Kenyan people at home - such as the wide range of corrupt government officials, poverty, children lacking school fees, bad roads, children morality issues, outright theft of public resources, etc!

The few people intending to travel to the US can afford to pay whatever amount of money the Embassy is charging if they have the money to travel. Focus your energy elsewhere to help ordinary Kenyans.

Why should Boniface be so concerned about the US Embassy visa fees while he is not bothered by the rampant corruption and theft of resources by government officials? Charity begins at home Mwangi! Just wondering!

BTW: Americans are just getting back the money they have given Kenya before it is all stolen by your greedy and corrupt politicians. Beggars have no much choice!

He has a point if they do not issue a visa they should refund even it is half the amount or the full amount that should apply to all embassies that require visas before travel. Why collect money from the poor and then only reward the “rich “who demonstrate they can afford the fake American life.

The US Embassy facilitates the partnership transition btw the government to serve the interests of both Countries for business to family to education to sports to healthcare trips etc.....Instead thy use it as "trap" to generate $$$ from Kenyan citizens, How much does Kenya Embassy charge for her Visa visits variations..??..Totally agree with Boniface it's big a scandal!!..

Atleast this is one thing I agree with Boniface.Usa is the worse corrupt country in this urniverse. They rob u indirectly. It’s Simple if I was the president I will make them refund 75% myself or close dwn the stupid embassy but some of us blacks r totally brainwashed by saying nobody is forced to go to the embassy???They live n do bizness in kenya so they must respect the kenyan people.

Yes they should refund our hard earned money. They have made it a business to Rob Kenyans/Africans then deny 95% of the applicants. Win win for them. Daylight robbery

People should desist from thinking of emigrating out of Kenya and fix the damn country, not just engaging in corrupt deals, day in day out.. Let Americans and other Westerners see a good country, independent of other nations, then you can charge them an equal amount.
Otherwise, it is good you raised this one up Mr. Mwangi, but our people continue to believe that leaving the country for "greener pastures" is the only solution. Our politicians are also just sleeping in those damn chambers. Wake up!

The mwenye nguvu mpishe superpower flexing. Kenyans can avoid this by building a superpower of their own. You get respect only if you got money.

Boniface provided his opinion on a charge that he felt was unfair. No need to be rude to him if you don't agree with him.
