Stop Sideshows and Get Down to Work, President Uhuru Tells Leaders

Avoid sideshows, distractions and get down to work, this is President Kenyatta's message to all leaders across the country.

Speaking in Kajiado on Wednesday where he officially opened a $280 million (Sh28.3 billion) cement clinker plant, the president said time for politicking is over and leaders must now focus on delivering their pledges to the electorate.

“I ask every leader – right across Kenya – to remember that this is the time to get down to work. The elections are over," the President remarked.

"The people of Kenya have chosen their leaders. They now expect you to set aside distractions, games and sideshows and focus your efforts on building our nation."

The plant was set up by National Cement Company and has a capacity of manufacturing 1.2 million metric tonnes per year. It will initially employ 700 Kenyans directly and more than 7,000 by 2020.

“These jobs will teach our young people vital skills and build the economy of this county. These jobs that will have a multiplier effect across the country," President Kenyatta said, adding that the project is in line with his four-point agenda in his final term.

“Let other counties learn from Kajiado - do all you can to attract new industrial investments. Each county in Kenya has its own strengths and potential," he added.
