Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Invites President Uhuru Kenyatta to G7 Summit

President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to attend the next G7 summit in Canada after an invite by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau personally made the invitation when he held talks with Uhuru at Lancaster House, London, UK, at the periphery of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

Trudeau and Kenyatta also arrived at an agreement for Kenya and Canada to collaborate on the blue economy. The Canadian PM also accepted President Kenyatta's request for his country to co-host the Oceans Conference in Kenya later this year.

“Our meeting gives us an opportunity to speak about the great relationship between Kenya and Canada. Canada is pleased with the excellent conference on the blue economy you are hosting and is ready to partner with you,” Trudeau said.

President Kenyatta noted: “We see this as an important opportunity to entrench the message that we need to continue to do everything in our power to fight poverty. If we don’t fight poverty, it will lead to immigrants from poor countries seeking new pastures in Western countries, with the potential to negatively affect them.”

The Group of Seven comprises industrialised countries namely; the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, and Japan. President Kenyatta attended a similar summit in Germany last year after an invite by Prime Minister Angela Merkel.

He was the only African Head of State who addressed the summit that was attended by among other United States President Donald Trump.
