Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is scheduled to visit retired President Daniel arap Moi at his rural residence in Kabarak, Nakuru County this week.
The Star reports that Musyoka will lead a delegation to Moi's home after the meeting rescheduled from last Friday “because Mzee’s diary could not allow it.”
“Kalonzo’s formal request was accepted. The meeting can take place anytime this week,” the Star quoted a source privy to the arrangements.
Kalonzo's visit comes barely two weeks after opposition leader Raila Odinga met with Moi in Kabarak. Among those expected to accompany Kalonzo during the visit will be Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.
Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) moments after arriving from an election observation mission in Azerbaijan about two weeks ago, Kalonzo indicated he would visit the former President “soon”.
“I must congratulate my brother Raila Odinga because I saw him going to see Mzee Moi. I also want to go and see Mzee Moi. We must now open this space. We also must respect our elders and go and seek their opinion,” Kalonzo said.
“Raila going to see Mzee Moi is a very good thing. I will try and seek appointment and do so, and other people will do the same.I think Uhuru should also go to see Mzee Moi because I do not think he saw him after he came back from Israel."
"We must open up the space where we respect our elders and can go and even seek their opinions,” Kalonzo said.
Musyoka served as Minister for Foreign Affairs in President Moi administration between 1993 and 1998, an assistant Minister and later KANU Secretary-General and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
