Governors Alfred Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana Bury the Hatchet, Pledge to Work Together

Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana and his Machakos counterpart Dr Alfred Mutua have agreed to put their differences aside and work together for the benefit of their people.

The two Governors publicly reconciled when they attended a fundraiser at Shine Star Secondary School in Makindu and urged other leaders from the region to join their unity initiative.

The two were in different political factions during the last year's general election, where they vigorously campaign against each other.

Kibwana, who is also the Wiper Party's chairman campaigned for National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the region, while Mutua, who doubles up Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, rallied the region behind President Kenya and Jubilee Party.

Kibwana also drummed support for Wiper Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti, who lost the bid to dislodge Mutua from the seat.

“I want to ask Governor Kivutha Kibwana to forgive me for any wrongs I might have committed against him and again request him for a handshake as a sign of unity,” Dr Mutua said during the fund drive as he shook hands with Kibwana.

On his part, Governor Kibwana noted, “As the chairman of Wiper, I am in agreement with our party leader who recently said that we don’t have to fight here at home. I know you are both hunting, we are not blocking anyone."

Governor Mutua used the occasion to reiterate  his intentions to run for Presidency in 2022.

“After 10 years as a Governor in Machakos, I will be seeking your support to become President come 2022, just like a student who after form four proceeds to the university,” Dr Mutua said.
