National Super Alliance (Nasa) chief strategist David Ndii has confessed to smoking excessive levels of bhang during his youthful years.
The controversial economist now wants the government to legalize sale and use of the drug, arguing that it's non-addictive.
"I was addicted to cigarettes, struggled a lot to quit. I smoked a lot of pot in my youth, never had cravings or withdrawal symptoms. "You’d have to smoke a hell of a lot of pot to get addicted, if at all," Ndii said in a series of tweets.
Ndii was reacting to a recent incident where Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) nabbed 17 kilos of marijuana worth Sh680,000 at the Kenya-Uganda border. The substance was being smuggled into the country for sale.
Ndii questioned why government has legalized use and sale of cigarettes which are more harmful to human bodies but has banned use of bhang. He claims the State was protecting big companies that manufacture cigarettes.
"Why is marijuana (non-additive medicinal) illegal and cigarettes (addictive carcinogen) legal. Because ordinary people can roll their own joints, but cigarettes are made by big capitalists, that's why," he claimed.

Need to put up a good case for legalization. Fact that one subject has been taking it for years is not adequate.
A step in the right direction. I have been informing readers that there seem to be chemical imbalance in this man. To become clean he now need to confess he is gay and reveal his boyfriend
Ati jamaa ni wa kutombwa BOOT?Haya mbasi aseme NAPPY size na address zake nitume pamoja na za Babu Owino na mambimbi wawili dume wa jambazi Kirubi ikiwa Christmas Gift.
Mr. Ndii, when are we Kenyans going to follow our own path and not become copy cats. People like you who cannot even tell when their long consumed bhang is displaying itself in their character and talks. People like you need to move out of the way and let those who respect their fore father's, their culture, their God and fellow man lead the way. As for your bhang consumption, please relocate to where it is legal at this time when you need it. You move with the wind and nobody sane should follow you. You were once a Mugikuyu, the last time we checked, you were a Luo. What are you now? God help Kenya!!
Ndii's (Ndei's) teeth Tell of a Weed smoker; and he could be Downing it with Muratina, Kangara or Busaa.
No wonder, huyu Ndii Hana muelekeo!
Ndii does not only smoke bhang, but is always high on cocaine or opium to date. That is why he never condemns drug corruption.
All along I thought Ndii had some imbalance. Kumbe ni malipuko ya bangi.
Ok Ndii, you win. I’d recommend to Uhuru to create a Bhang and coccaine Commission and appoint you as the chairman of its licensing board. This is a shame for a PhD holder like you. Do you care about our youth? Do you know that many parents are in tears because their children have become drug addicts? You are leading Kenya on a path to hell. I thank God very few Kenyans care about what you say.
I have said it many times that this too highly educated with degrees n masters pples r big idiots in our country?Move to USA where they worship n encourage to b immoral of how to do the devils work. From ushoga ushetani umalaya now bhangi Which all this shit is legal.
Then you expect these goons called politicians who smoke all kinds of drugs lead Kenya? Their minds are never sober, decisions never great, might be good but not to the expected levels, any toxins introduced to your body messes up some neurons thats a fact.
