Former Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe Says Plan to Block DP William Ruto from Power is Bearing Fruits

Former Jubilee party vice-chairperson David Murathe says that his plan to scuttle Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid is bearing fruits.

Speaking during a consultative meeting at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's home on Wednesday, Murathe has hailed the recent appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to oversee all government projects.

Murathe says the appointment of Matiang'i to the powerful position has crippled Ruto's plans since he will no longer traverse the country in the name of launching and supervising projects on behalf of the President.

"I am glad that Ruto has been put in his place and government work is now properly streamlined," Murathe notes.

Murathe adds: "We'll no longer see him going around the country again in the guise of touring development projects."

Matiang'i was promoted to his new role through an Executive Order 1 of 2019 issued by President Kenyatta.

Murathe maintains that Ruto should not be allowed to run for President because he has exhausted the maximum two terms provided for by the Constitution.

He says Ruto should retire in 2022 alongside President Kenyatta when their second and final term expires.

"If the legal basis for the DP's candidacy is that he's running for a different office from one he occupied in the two terms, then what stops President Kenyatta also contesting and serving as deputy president?" he posed amid cheers.

During the meeting also attended by former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Murathe rubbished Ruto's development tours saying: "Watu wasije hapa kuwandanganya eti wameleta maendeleo Ukambani. Ni haki yenu na hakuna haja ya kutangatanga," (Leaders shouldn't come here to peddle lies that they are initiating development in Ukambani. It is your right).

Murathe, who resigned as Jubilee party vice-chairman three weeks ago, has vowed to use all means to stop Ruto from ascending to power.
