From US Military Officer to African Logistics Entrepreneur: The Journey of Charles Thuo
Charles Thuo left a career in aerospace engineering and military service in the United States to build Apexloads, a company focused on improving logistics and transport systems across Africa.
Born in Pumwani and raised in Ngong, Thuo moved to the United States at the age of 20 in search of new opportunities. He later established a career in the aerospace industry, working with companies including Boeing and Cessna. Alongside his civilian work, he served in the US Army National Guard and rose to the rank of Captain as a combat engineer.
His career combined technical expertise with military leadership, reflecting years of training and professional discipline. For many immigrants, such achievements represent significant progress within highly competitive industries.
Thuo later left the aerospace sector and entered the trucking industry in Oklahoma. There, he gained direct experience in freight transport, supply chains, and long-distance logistics operations. The move expanded his understanding of how goods, time, and commercial networks function within large transport systems.
That experience led to the creation of Apexloads, a logistics company aimed at improving transport operations in Africa. Thuo’s goal is to apply lessons from the highly structured logistics systems in the United States to African markets, where transport networks are often fragmented and informal.
Through technology and improved market access, Apexloads seeks to connect transporters, freight forwarders, and brokers more efficiently. The company aims to strengthen coordination across the logistics sector and support wider economic activity.
