Fraudsters Use Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma's Name to Con Kenyans Online

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned Kenyans of fraudsters operating fake social media accounts with the name of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Monica Juma.

In a statement, the DCI says the conmen have been using the accounts on Facebook and Twitter to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans.

The DCI has urged anyone who has been scammed by persons running the fake accounts to file a report with them.

“We urge those who have been defrauded through a Twitter account alleged to be of the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs madam Monica Juma to report to the DCI through: director@cid.go.ke."

"Detectives from the Cyber Crime Unit have commenced investigations to ensure the perpetrators are dealt with according to the law,” reads the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Ambassador Juma only operates one Twitter account (@Diplomacy_Kenya) and none on Facebook.

“Our attention has been drawn to a number of social media accounts that are impersonating the CS Amb Monica Juma. Unfortunately, these accounts are being used to solicit money from unsuspicious individuals,” the Ministry notes.
