A Kenyan Member of Parliament was on Tuesday evening arrested after he was filmed assaulting a blogger.
Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo was apprehended and taken to Kisumu Central Police Station for beating up a blogger identified as Maurice Otieno.
The politician accused Otieno of spreading fake news on social media claiming that he had been arrested.
In the video shared on social media, MP Odhiambo is seen slapping Otieno, who was seated among his friends.
"Why did you post [that] I was arrested?" the MP asked as he assaulted the man.
Otieno is heard pleading with the MP to spare him since had deleted the alleged Facebook post.
"But I've deleted the post mjumbe. Is there a problem Elisha?"
In the post, the blogger claimed the MP was being sought by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over an alleged probe into the loss of CDF funds.
Speaking to journalists after the incident, blogger Otieno said: "In the course of the day I had received numerous calls on the post and I even had to speak to Mheshimiwa myself [to confirm the reports]. I pulled the post down."
"I called [the MP] but he did not pick, I sent him a text, after a few minutes he came to where I was breathing fire,” Otieno told reporters.
