Nairobi Court Lifts Warrant of Arrest against Kenya Rugby 7s Player Alex Olaba in Gang-Rape Case

A warrant of arrest issued against Kenyan rugby 7s star Alex Mahaga Olaba has been lifted after he turned up in court on Wednesday.

Last Friday, Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered for the arrest of Olaba after he failed to appear in court for the second time for a ruling on his rape case.

Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, sitting in for magistrate Mutuku, lifted the warrant on Wednesday after the accused person satisfactorily explained his absence from court last Friday.

Olaba said he was not in a position to attend the court session because he was unwell.

Olaba and his teammate Frank Wanyama were on April 23rd this year charged with rape.

The two are accused of gang-raping a musician at Seefar Apartments in Nairobi on February 10th, 2019.

The victim said the two drugged and sexually assaulted her when she attended a birthday party in their house.

Olaba and Wanyama denied the charges and were released on cash bail.

A ruling on the case will be delivered on August 5th, 2019.
