‘Kwani Alifanya Course Gani?’ Kenyans Ask as Polycarp Igathe is Rehired by Equity Bank

Kenyans online have reacted after former Nairobi Governor Polycarp Igathe rejoined Equity Bank on Monday, just two days after he resigned from his position at Vivo Energy.

Igathe was on Monday appointed as Equity Bank’s Chief Commercial Officer, a role he previously held at the lender.

Equity first hired Igathe in May 2018, barely four months after he resigned as Nairobi deputy governor citing ideological differences with Governor Mike Sonko. He first served as the lender’s Chief Commercial Officer before he was promoted to the managing director role four months later.

But in September last year, Igathe left Equity to join Vivo Energy as the company’s Executive Vice President in charge of Sales for Africa. Before he joined politics ahead of the 2017 elections, Igathe was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vivo Energy.

Last Friday, Vivo Energy announced Igathe was leaving the company over undisclosed reasons.

Kenyans on social media are wondering how Igathe is able to jump from one plum job to another without much hustle. Some sought to know what course he studied while others asked: “whose son is he.”

@VictorMochere tweeted: “Polycarp Igathe: 2016: Resigns as CEO Vivo 2018: Resigns as DG Nairobi 2019: Resigns as Equity Bank COO 2020: Resigns as Vivo Executive VP. This man is the real OG of resignations.”

@Mwass_ wrote: “Polycarp Igathe’s first day at work is usually him busy applying for the next job.”

@Moha001_Onyango said: “You see the way last borns eat food leave it then come demanding their leftovers back? That's how Equity Bank leaves a vacant position for Polycarp Igathe anytime he feels like he's jobless... Equity Bank must all the times reserve a job for Chris Kirubi's "son".”

@shobanes asked: “How marketable is Polycarp Igathe??? Coca-Cola, Africa Online, Kenya Breweries, Equity Bank, Deputy Governor, Vivo Energy, Equity Bank. Bro, huyu mtu ako na qualifications gani? This is literally life on the employment fast lane.”

Igathe graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and sociology from the University of Nairobi and holds an advanced management program course from Strathmore University.

Igathe cannot be able to hold one job for more than one year. That is a recipe for a messed up dude. There is nothing admirable for an employee who has such a pattern. For those senior jobs you have to work for about 5 years so that people can see the result of your work. One year is just a learning curve.

Kukuyus will hire kikuyus; if you think iam lying just take a look @ Equity bank top positions; if you are too blind and retarded; look @ your government Cs's!
Igathe won't get a job here in North America. Corporate companies look for commitment, dedication, engaging and team player and not an inconsistent and unpredictable individual like this dude jumping from company to company.
It's the exact reason why mlevi wants to hold on to power; to protect his family(Kenyatta), Moi's & Raila's stolen wealth. The young, educated jobless Kenyans will change their country, reject shitty BBI, vote in a young guy, and let the old get wiped out by the second phase of corona!

@kibiwen, One would be saddened to think a guy who claims to be an educated civil engineer can reason out like a “tad”!

This is the main reason those you have mentioned here won’t hire you because you are still evolving mentally, and they don’t have the time to wait for your full cycle evolution to be complete!

I thought he had another big shot job or he is just not good enough to keep one, he joins the hyped Kenyans who hop from one of their father's friends jobs and connections to another.

Now I’m beginning to understand why Igathe was not cut out for a Deputy Governor job!

Sonko could see the man did not have what it takes to get the job done. He wants a job where everything is provided in a Silver platter!

He does not have the patience to stick out in any one job to see its fruition. He will not last long at the Equity Bank.

@Lilopi or lollipop; I don't suck lollipops(as your name indicates) nor kiss asses! I m not a civil engineer but an Electrical engineer(power production, distribution & energy efficiency)!
You may not like what I said, its a FACT! and anyone with decency & moral ethics will call them out! Kenya has 42 tribes! Where is diversity in the current gova? or Equity? Don't mind if you hit me with facts but if you gonna step on my toes and think i will smile; you got that wrong dude! A true believer of standing 'your ground', if you have any idea what its means. Pumbavu!
