‘Even Science Needs God’: Uhuru Responds to US-Based Kenyan Lawyer Makau Mutua

President Kenyatta appeared to respond to US-based Kenyan lawyer Prof. Makau Mutua who recently said that the coronavirus pandemic will only be addressed through science and not prayers.

Prof. Mutua said this after Kenyatta declared Saturday, March 21st a National Day of Prayer over the pandemic.

“Prayers won’t help Kenya combat the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s stop this superstition and return to science. This primordialism and naïveté could wipe us off the face of the map,” Mutua wrote Twitter.

Speaking at State House on Saturday when he led the country in praying against illness, Uhuru said even science needs God.

“I know there are those who are saying that we should depend on science not prayers but I want to assure you that even science needs God. We need to always remember that a nation prospers when a nation believes and trusts in its maker,” said Uhuru.

He added: “Today is our day as Kenyans, a day we have chosen to come together to give thanks for all that God has done for us, seek His forgiveness for anything we may have done wrong individually and collectively, to ask for His favor in the face of the challenges that we have.”

Deputy President William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretaries, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and several other political and religious leaders attended the prayer function.

Kenya has so far confirmed seven cases of Covid-19, which has spread to over 100 countries including 38 in Africa.

In everything man proposes, God disposes!! Man is moving ahead with his plans, God will guide those deeds to fit God's masterplan. So all will be watching as God'S master plan unfolds always for the good. Underlying it all "God's Masterplan"- after all said and done, we will marvel at it!!!

Confusion comes when we are driven to believe prayer solves everything. God will only help you if and when you try to help yourself. You cannot sit around, pray and expect results.

It’s obvious what the professor is saying is correct. No one should play upon religion in this time where gov’t taking action and preventative measures are everything

In fact Prayer is significant in all Human endeavours, what is so worrying for our case is the Hypocrisy of our Political leaders, pretending to be Prayerful while they continue with their routine evils, corruption, assassinations etc, will the Lord we Pray to accept our cries and Prayers? Unless our Politicians change their attitudes our prayers will remain in vain. How many times have we had National Prayers including Breakfast Prayers? Has it reversed corruption or any big Fish thrown behind Bars? The answer is No. The Clergy mean well for this Country, they are serious for a just Country for all of us; but our Politicians are our main undoing of the would be Fruits of Our Prayers, how I wish they would wake up to reality

@Vincent, I agree with most what you've said.....BUT the clergy, my goodness, where have they been???? They've watched as the poor got oppressed beyond what can be put in words.... they've watched as the looting grew from a baby to a full grown monster... The clergy will answer before God...they slept and snored on the job as the sheep were trampled on to death.

Prayers work in conjunction with medicine. Kenyans have always turned to God in times of difficulties; and this time is not any different.

A professor Makau can’t tell the faithfuls not to pray, while he is holding on his traditional Kamuti to help him! Keep hanging on what you have always worshipped and leave us alone to call upon our Mighty God for a define healing provision as we continue to search for a cure.

Uhuru never said for Kenyans to ignore any medical measures being taken to protect them from getting the coronavirus.

Uhuru is saying that it important to pray for God’s wisdom to come upon us so we can take the right precautions.

The scientists and the medical doctors need wisdom so that a cure can be found quickly.

Let not one professor in NY start to confuse the masses at this difficult time. Lecturing those who are advising Kenyans and others on coronavirus will not help us.

Sometimes it is reasonably good for some of the shake-tri- mechanic PhD holders to keep quiet if you are not an expert in research, science, or a medical doctor. So I say to Makau, keep your mouth shut until a cure for coronavirus can be found by the experts!!

Makau is a HOI polloi of medical sciences. He needs to stick to his legal background and let scientists do their research work! His utterance are a mere distraction to good work done by the experts. As for prayers, let those who want to pray do it.

And for you Makau, just continue to worship what you know has best worked for you in the hour of need because coronavirus does not recognize you status as a professor of history!

Kenya is a distinct country by itself alone. It is not one of those other countries which do not know God. No one is forcing you to give thanks to God for whatever reason; except for some place I read you giving thanks to God for being a very poor person. Cherishing poverty is your portion, quite indeed!. Do your thing and let the true worshippers glorify the Almighty!

Over the years I’ve followed Makaus articles on Newspapers and my observation is that he is a very proud Kamba Son who thinks that other Africans are not as good because he lives in USA He tries to use big English Words to impress us but you know what A KAMBA will remain a KAMBA and will never be American I don’t know if he still remembers what he used to write about Uhuru and Ruto and then he had the Audacity to apply to be CHIEF JUSTICE in their Administration it really baffles many people Barrister
