6-Year-Old Kenyan Boy Dies of Covid-19 As Number of Infections Rises to 122

A six-year-old Kenyan boy has become the latest coronavirus patient to die of the disease in Kenya.
The boy’s death brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the country to four. In a press briefing on Friday, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the boy had underlying medical conditions and died at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he had been admitted.
“Medical staff who handled the boy have been quarantined,” said Mwangangi.
At the same time, the Health Ministry announced the confirmation of 12 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total tally to 122. Dr. Mwangangi said the new cases include 11 Kenyans and one Somali national.
The 12 cases, including eight males and four females, were recorded from 300 samples tested within the past 24 hours, added Mwangangi.
Nine of the 12 new patients were in quarantine while the remaining were suspected cases who were admitted to different health facilities. Their ages range from 28 to 58 years.
Seven of the cases were registered in Nairobi county, two in Mombasa while Kiambu, Laikipia, and Nyeri recorded one case each.
Health officials have so far traced 1,721 contacts and 1,073 have since been discharged after being monitored for the requisite 14 days. 648 other contacts are being traced.
