Uganda to Repatriate 27-Year-Old Kenyan Man Infected with Covid-19

A 27-year-old Kenyan man who tested positive for Covid-19 in Uganda on Tuesday, April 14th is set to be repatriated.
Uganda’s Director-General of Health Services Henry Mwebesa said the Kenyan was among 372 truck drivers who were tested for the virus at the country’s border with Kenya.
"His sample was collected at Malaba point of entry," Mwebesa said in a statement.
He further noted that the patient will be ferried back to Kenya for treatment near his family.
"Arrangements are being made to return him to Kenya for treatment close to his family. The Ministry of Health is currently testing all truck drivers (cargo transporters) for Covid-19 who come into the country via various borders," Mwebesa added.
The Kenyan man was diagnosed with Covid-19 alongside another Ugandan truck driver. The two drivers had traveled from Kenya and were subjected to mandatory testing by Ugandan officials at the border point.
Uganda has instituted strict testing guidelines at its borders as part of the measures to contain the spread of the bug. The country has so far recorded 55 cases of Covid-19, four recoveries, and zero deaths.
It is not clear why Uganda decided to repatriate the Kenyan patient given that Kenya has been treating foreigners found with the virus in the country, including citizens from neighboring Tanzania, DRC Congo, and South Sudan.
