Covid-19 Spreads to Over 20 Nairobi Estates Including Upmarket Kilimani, Karen, Kitisuru and Runda

Kenya on Saturday confirmed 16 additional cases of the Covid-19 disease, raising the total number of infections in the country to 262.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a media briefing, said the 16 positive cases were confirmed from 1,015 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

15 out of the 16 people who tested positive for the bug are Kenyan nationals while one is a foreigner. CS Kagwe said none of the 16 patients have a recent history of travel abroad.

The 16 cases are spread out across three counties including nine in Nairobi, five from Mombasa and one from Homa Bay. The patients are aged between 23 and 84 years.

Seven more patients have been discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 60 while the death toll from the virus increased to 13 after two more patients died.

CS Kagwe announced that over 20 Nairobi estates have registered at least one case of Covid-19 with high-end Kilimani suburb having the highest number-6. Nairobi accounts for more than 60 percent of the total confirmed cases in the country.

Other Nairobi estates with cases of coronavirus are Pipeline (5), Kawangware (3), Karen (4), South C (4), Utawala (4), Mlolongo (1), and Eastleigh (1).

Buruburu has registered 2 cases, Tassia (2), Kitisuru (2), Parklands (2), Kibra (2), Donholm (1), Hurlingham (1), Lavington (1), Runda (1), Ngara (1), Madaraka (1), and, Kasarani (1) among others.

“I want to plead with all of us to take the measures we have announced more seriously,” said Kagwe.
