Uhuru Eulogizes US Civil Rights Hero John Lewis

President Kenyatta has joined other world leaders in eulogizing departed American civil rights hero John Lewis.

Lewis, a long-serving Congressman, died on Friday aged 80 after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Uhuru in a statement on Sunday said death has robbed the world of an inspirational politician who shaped the careers of many renowned global leaders.

"I wish God's comfort to the family of the Congressman, members of his Democratic Party, and his supporters during this difficult period of grief," Uhuru said.

He was the youngest and last survivor of the Martin Luther King-led “Big Six”, a group of civil rights activists that lodged a fierce fight against racial segregation.

Lewis helped King organize the historic March on Washington in 1963 and once suffered a fractured skull at the hands of state troopers.

Some republicans will be grieving and some democrats will be happy he is not there any more. Send the condolences to all and let those who want to receive them do.
