Fears of Second Covid-19 Wave as Kenya's Daily Cases Hit Record High

Kenya’s daily Covid-19 cases have hit a record high in what raises fears of a second wave of infections.

The Health Ministry on Thursday reported 1,068 new positive cases from a sample of 7,556 tests, raising the total number of infections in the country to 47,212.

The new cases comprise 1,044 Kenyans and 12 foreign nationals with 666 being male and 402 females. The ages of the new patients range between six months and 96 years old.

At the same time, 290 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours bringing the tally of recoveries to 33,050.

Sadly, the Covid-19 death toll increased to 870 after the country lost 12 more patients to the disease.

Nairobi county registered the highest number of infections with 305 followed by Nakuru (137), Mombasa (74), Kisumu (60), and Kericho (58).

Others are Nandi (48), Uasin Gishu (48), Kakamega (47), Kilifi (34), Kisii (28) Laikipia (26), Turkana (22), Meru (20), Kajiado and Kiambu (18), Garissa (15) Busia and Machakos (14), and West Pokot (12).

Health Cabinet Secretary said 27 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 45 are on supplementary oxygen, 27 on ventilator support, and 12 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A total of 1,121 patients are admitted to various health facilities across the country while 3,112 are on home-based care program.
