Uhuru to Deliver 2020 State of the Nation Address Next Week

President Kenyatta is set to deliver this year’s State of the Nation Address in Parliament on November 12th.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 6th, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and his Senate counterpart Ken Lusaka asked MPs to attend the address to be delivered at the National Assembly main chamber from 2:30 pm.
“President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H., shall address a Special Sitting of Parliament on Thursday, 12th November 2020, at 2.30 p.m., in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings,” the notice read.
Speaker Muturi said social distancing guidelines by the Health Ministry will be adhered to during the session.
During this year’s address, Kenyatta is expected to speak on various issues including the fight against Covid-19, the government’s Big Four agenda, and the impending referendum to amend the constitution through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), among others.
Article 132 (1) of the Constitution mandates the President to address a special sitting of Parliament once every year.
It also requires him to file a report on the measures taken and progress achieved in the realization of national values.
The President is also required to table a report to the National Assembly on the country’s progress in meeting its international obligations.
