104-Year-Old Among 1,065 New Covid-19 Patients in Kenya

A 104-year-old Kenyan is among the 1,065 new cases of coronavirus reported in the country on Saturday.

The new cases were detected from 7,386 samples tested in the past 24 hours and pushed the total number of infections in the country to 61,769, according to the Ministry of Health.

The 1,065 new Covid-19 patients comprise 993 Kenyans and 72 foreigners with 661 being male whereas 404 are female. Their ages range between three and 104 years.

The cases were recorded in 37 counties among them Nairobi (263), Mombasa (181), Uasin Gishu (63), Nakuru (62), Kisumu (53), Kiambu (47), Kajiado (38), Kilifi (36), Kericho (30), and Busia (30).

During the same period, 888 people recovered from the disease, raising the tally of recoveries to 41,019.

The Covid-19 death toll jumped to 1,103 after 10 patients succumbed to the virus between Friday and Saturday.

President Kenyatta was this week forced to announced a raft of new measures aimed at suppressing the second wave of the pandemic. 

The president warned the government may be forced to impose localized lockdowns if the situation exacerbates.
