Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to Spend Night at Gigiri Police Station

Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko will spend Monday night in police cells pending arraignment on Tuesday.
The Star reports that Sonko is likely to be charged with at least seven counts of robbery with violence and five counts of assault.
One of the incidents reportedly happened at a nursery school in Buruburu in 2019, and detectives recommended his prosecution after investigations.
Sonko was booked at Gigiri Police Station On Monday after he was grilled at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters earlier in the day.
Sonko had been summoned to the DCI over his recent remarks on the violence witnessed during ODM protests in 2017.
He claimed that he was involved in the stage-managing of chaos during the demonstrations to paint ODM and its supporters in a bad light.
Sonko alleged that he worked with Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and other government officials, where they printed ODM t-shirts and bought second-hand cars from showrooms, and later burnt them on Ngong Road to frame the protesters.
On Monday morning, Sonko, through lawyer John Khaminwa, moved to the High Court seeking orders to stop the planned grilling by DCI detectives. But Justice James Makau declined to issue the orders and instead ordered the matter be heard on February 28th.
Sonko was ordered to appear at the DCI after PS Kibicho filed a complaint against him last week, accusing him of character assassination.
