Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai is reportedly admitted to a Nairobi hospital.
People Daily reports that Mutyambai fell ill last Thursday and was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
He was transferred to the high dependency unit (HDU) two days later and to the general ward on Monday.
Details of what Mutyambai is ailing from and his current status remain strictly confidential, according to the publication.
Some of the senior ranking police officers denied any knowledge of their boss being hospitalized at the Aga Khan Hospital.
Before his hospitalization last week, Mutyambai is reported to have sought medical attention multiple times and kept off his office for a while, a senior officer privy to his health condition said.
Reports indicate he is now in stable condition and could be discharged this week.
The Constitution allows the Inspector-General of Police to delegate command to a police officer of a senior rank.
