Nairobi Woman Rep. Esther Passaris Denies Quitting Race to Defend Her Seat

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Muthoni Passaris says she is still in the race to defend her seat in the August 9th elections.

Passaris termed reports that she stepped down from the race as false and malicious, saying she is focused on retaining the position.

"My attention has been drawn to malicious and false allegations purporting that I have stepped down from defending my seat. Nothing could be further from the truth,” Passaris said on Twitter.

“Serving the People of Nairobi as their Woman Rep. has been a great honor, and I intend to continue this noble journey.”

Reports claimed that the first-time MP had stepped down in favor of Anitah Epale Nanjala, who is eyeing the same seat on an ODM party ticket.

Passaris won the seat in the 2017 elections on an ODM ticket after beating Jubilee’s Rachel Shebesh, who served as the Nairobi Woman Representative from 2013 to 2017.

Other candidates in the race include Millicent Omanga of UDA, Beatrice Kwamboka (ODM) and Wangui Ng’ang’a (Jubilee).
