Six Makueni MCAs Arrested for Fraudulently Pocketing Sh175,000 Each After a Dubai Trip

Six Makueni Members of County Assembly (MCAs) were on Monday arrested for fraudulently receiving public funds amounting to over Sh1 million.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) says the six Ward Representatives claimed and received Sh175,018.50 each in full per diem for a trip to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which had been privately sponsored.

The six; Timothy Sirei Maneno, Bernard Wambua, Cosmas Mutunga, Bensley Mwania, John Muli and Bernard Muthoka, will be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property.

“The private Dubai trip, which was fully sponsored by the then MP, Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba, was undertaken from 14/04/2014 to 21/04/2014. Upon return, the MCAs fraudulently claimed and received Sh175,018.50 each as per diem which they were not entitled to,” EACC said in a statement.

The anti-graft agency said the MCAs will be charged alongside the then Clerk of Makueni County Assembly Edward Libendi, who allegedly facilitated the illegal payments.

While I support every effort forward to curb corruption, I don’t agree on selective mobilization of the same. Last year Uhuru / Raila presided on numerous bribery spree to woo those that were opposed to BBI. This was an open market of corruption. I believe the mcas in this case are opposed to Uhuru/ Raila policies and that explains the selective corruption fight. If today they turn their heads towards Uhuru/ Raila you never hear of their misdeeds again.
And now Uhuru/ Raila are at it again. Bribing politicians to join their bandwagon. Examples are Kalonzo, Kirwa, Sabina, etc. Why does anyone think Kalonzo keep coming back after every ultimatum? He is not crazy as people might think. Just like Raila he is serving his personal interests.
