This Job is Difficult…No Sleep: President Uhuru Says He is Looking Forward to Retirement

President Kenyatta has dismissed claims that he intends to extend his stay in power beyond the August 9th elections, saying that he is looking forward to his retirement.

Describing being a president as a difficult job, Kenyatta said the 10 years he has served are enough and his only desire hand over a united, cohesive and peaceful country to his successor this year.

“I don’t want to remain in power as they allege. This is a difficult job, no sleep…this house is full of challenges and ten years for me is enough. I am waiting for 9th August,” said Uhuru.

He was speaking during a non-denominational worship and prayer service with spiritual leaders from Central Kenya at State House, Nairobi on Friday.

Kenyatta used the opportunity to drum up support for the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential running mate Martha Karua, describing her as a principled leader whose desire is to serve people.

"I settled on Martha Karua not because she is my friend, in fact you all know Martha and myself hardly agreed on anything there before. She even ran against me in 2012. But I settled on her because I have full confidence that our community is safe in her hands,” Kenyatta told the religious leaders.

“Despite the fact that we have never been on the same side politically with Martha, she is just and principled. It is better I follow someone who is principled. Who is just, truthful and led by the desire to serve people but not self.”

Uhuru further took a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto for engaging in what he termed as deceitful, divisive and misleading campaigns.

“You have already introduced rebellion and you are roaming across the country saying you have been wronged. A deal is between two people. If I am wrong you are also wrong. You have no right to seek leadership by lying, insults and theft,” he said.

Imara, Uhuru has publicly accepted that he was not ready to serve the Kenyan people as prescribed by the outcome of elections of 2017. Repeat elections were decided by the Supreme Court. Raila boycotted but his ballot allotment in the electioneering was in the presidential ballot and had a few people sign in for him. He lost. Why would any reasonable leader give him a handshake to share government. Handshake is not merely handshake. It means sharing government together. That’s why most of the chairmanships of parliamentary or senate seats were given opposition party contrary to the rules. Raila ha fully again had his mkate with Uhuru.
For such reasons Ruto has tried to come out as the bonafide leader of government. And in such a situation one won’t resist finding fault at him. Uhuru gave up the mandate he was given by the people a long time ago.
The issue right up today is not about a deputy president but about a president who failed his mandate.

Uhuru you have said it right. Your DP is just a big mouth who has violent tendencies starting with Kiambaa church inferno, Musando, Kenei, Jacob Juma now he wants to slap you? Why did he not try to slap you? Well, because he knew he would have left state House in a coffin. Lakini August 9 inakuja. Atajua hajui.
