Wajackoyah Denies Azimio Funded His Manifesto Launch

Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah on Sunday, August 13, denied accusations made by political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi that his party was funded by Azimio to sabotage President William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.

Ngunyi had on Saturday claimed that Azimio provided funding for the Root's party manifesto launch to coincide with the launch of Ruto's manifesto to debilitate Kenya Kwanza's momentum. However, Wajackoyah has refuted the statement, saying that his party has no knowledge of financial involvement with Azimio. Wajackoyah accused Ngunyi of exploiting his party for personal political gain. Additionally, he denied receiving any financing from the Jubilee Administration and placed the blame strictly on Ngunyi's sensationalist remarks.

''Our plan was to irritate him and that's why we funded Wajackoyah to launch his manifesto on the same day Ruto was also launching his UDA manifesto,'' Ngunyi said.

Whilst facing accusations, Wajackoyah remains dedicated to forging collaborations to achieve economic liberation for Kenya. Wajackoyah teamed up with Raila Odinga after both himself and the opposition leader suffered defeat in last year's presidential elections. Wajackoyah's running mate, Justina Wamae, has weighed in on the claims, saying that Wajackoyah only became associated with Azimio just before their manifesto launch. She accuses Wajackoyah of resorting to violence and intimidation after their fallout, claiming that Wajackoyah believed she was after "the little money he got from the state." As of this writing, neither Raila nor Azimio has issued a statement regarding the alleged financial assistance.

"I went round the TVs telling people we had a fraud and con and everyone was against me. Let it be known the man was never a project until a few days before the Manifesto launch," she said during an interview with NTV on Sunday.
